Snow squalls cause highway closures in Nova Scotia
Snow squall watches and warnings were in effect Friday morning
Students in Shelburne County, from Digby to West Hants, and across to Pictou and Colchester counties are having another snow day Friday after squalls dumped more snow across the province Thursday night.
Highway 10 in Annapolis County was closed for a period following a tractor-trailer crash near Albany Cross. Several crashes were reported on Highway 101 in Kings and Annapolis counties Thursday night as the squalls brought whiteout conditions, the RCMP reported.
Squall watches and warnings are in effect for several counties, warning of up to 10 cm of snow and winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour.
It’s been a wintry week across the Maritimes. On Thursday, schools were open in Nova Scotia, but bus drivers were told to exercise caution on icy roads. Meanwhile, in New Brunswick, all school in four districts were closed yesterday due to poor road conditions.
