Extreme rainfall creates deadly floods in Spain, Portugal
Catastrophic flooding has hit parts of Spain and Portugal after several storms have brought excessive rainfall in recent weeks, leading to evacuations, travel disruptions and at least one fatality
Many areas in Spain and Portugal are under water after excessive rainfall that was brought on by successive severe weather events, including Saturday's Storm Marta.
The Iberian Peninsula, in particular, has already experienced a succession of storms in recent weeks, bringing heavy rain, thunder, snow and strong gales.

The community of Grazalema, Spain, recorded more than 500 mm of rain in 24 hours--one of the highest totals on record for the European country.
More than 3,500 evacuations were ordered in Andalusia, with more than 100 roads closed and rail disruptions from the extreme weather.
As a result of the storms, a 46-year-old volunteer of Portugal’s emergency services died while attempting to cross a flood, according to local news reports.
