Friday's warmth and rain

Southern Ontario will see temperatures rise into the low teens Friday, sitting 10-15°C above seasonal averages.

Widespread rain is expected with the warm-up however, with 5-15 mm forecast across the region, and localized higher totals possible if isolated thunderstorms develop.

Windy conditions will persist, as well, with widespread gusts of 60-80+ km/h by late afternoon and evening, reaching up to 90 km/h along shorelines.

Northern Ontario faces another bout of heavy snow, Timmins still digging out

Far northern Ontario can expect several rounds of snow this weekend, with 10-15+ cm forecast for areas northeast of Lake Superior.

Timmins has faced significant snowfall this season, with reports of one metre of snow in December—nearly double the average for the month. On Tuesday, Timmins city council reported it could take weeks to clear all streets. On Dec. 27, the city saw 15 cm of snow, followed by 60 cm, high winds, and extreme cold on Dec. 29.

Rounds of snow spread across the south following the thaw

Southern Ontario will see snow late Saturday into Sunday as a second system moves across the province. Freezing rain is expected in parts of eastern Ontario Saturday night, while southwestern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), may experience a messy mix of rain and snow.

On Sunday, a widespread burst of snow will sweep southern Ontario as the system exits eastward.

Next week looks wintry as well, with several rounds of snow expected midweek. By the end of the week, temperatures will drop below freezing, bringing below-seasonal cold alongside additional snow and lake-effect activity.
