B.C. and Alberta: The heat is on as August comes to a close
A strong high pressure system will settle over the southwestern U.S. as August concludes, extending its reach into British Columbia and Alberta.

This system will drive another heat wave, with temperatures climbing back into the 30s across both provinces this weekend.
The heat will begin Saturday in B.C.’s interior, where southern regions will see temperatures in the low to mid-30s, while interior valleys may peak in the mid to high 30s. Coastal areas will experience more moderate conditions as the ocean and onshore flow help limit temperature increases.

Beware of the wildfire danger as the heat builds
This extended ridge of high pressure, blocked by a trough over eastern Canada, is expected to maintain hot, dry weather over Western Canada heading into September.
The prolonged heat will elevate wildfire risk, especially in B.C.’s Interior. Fire danger ratings in many areas, are already rising from moderate to high.

A further increase to very high danger is anticipated in some regions over the next week. Stay updated on local fire restrictions and advisories.
