Renewed storm risk bubbles up in parts of southern Ontario Thursday

A warm front skirting into southern Ontario will bring yet another round of stormy weather to parts of the province on Thursday

After a blustery Tuesday across southern and eastern Ontario, which saw severe thunderstorms develop across the province, bringing heavy downpours and damaging winds to several cities, we're looking at yet another thunderstorm risk building into Thursday.

Over 75,000 Hydro One customers are without power as of early Wednesday morning after powerful wind gusts caused damage to trees and power lines throughout southern and eastern Ontario.

Luckily, we're looking at a less widespread risk with less severity than Tuesday with this upcoming round of storms.

While the storm risk extends across southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the severe risk will be limited to extreme southwestern Ontario.

May kicks off with another round of stormy weather in southern Ontario

A round of rain will wash over the province Thursday morning, where folks between Windsor and the GTA could even hear a rumble or two of thunder.

The greater thunderstorm risk, however, won't be until the evening hours as a warm front clips the province. We'll see a risk for severe storms to develop along the front, with the main hazard being hail up to the size of nickels.

There is still some uncertainty regarding how far into southern Ontario the warm front will reach, which will determine who sees strong storms. We could see the front extend into the Niagara region, which would increase the risk for stronger storms to develop there.

Showers could also linger through Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Looking forward, after a changeable weekend, folks can expect a fantastic start to May with above-seasonal temperatures and below-seasonal precipitation.
