Rainy, windy fall storm threatens Ontario’s weekend plans
Secure loose objects and Halloween decorations before the winds arrive
The Great Lakes are on the lookout for a developing fall storm set to sweep into the region this weekend with plenty of rain, gusty winds, and possibly some embedded thunderstorms.
Folks throughout Ontario will want to keep tabs on the weather over the next day or so as the storm’s track remains a bit uncertain, which could affect which communities see the highest impacts from rain and wind.

Fall storm heading for Ontario this weekend
A developing centre of low pressure will move toward the Great Lakes to kick off the weekend, bringing an assortment of disruptive weather to Ontario.
This will be one of the few organized fall storms we’ve seen in the province so far this year—a testament to the unusually dry pattern gripping the region of late.

We’re watching a stream of enhanced moisture flowing north from the Gulf of Mexico, which will fuel heavy rainfall. Expect rain to begin in northeastern Ontario late Saturday before pushing into southern Ontario by Sunday. Rainy conditions could last into Monday.
Instability and plenty of moisture could give rise to a few embedded thunderstorms during the event, so don’t be surprised if you hear a few rumbles this weekend.
Some uncertainty surrounding the track of the storm puts precise rainfall totals up in the air. However, it looks like a swath of northeastern Ontario could see significant rainfall totals on the order of 50-80+ mm.

Windy conditions will build over southern Ontario as the low-pressure system strengthens this weekend.
Strong wind gusts of 40-50 km/h are possible on Saturday, increasing to 60-80 km/h into Sunday morning. Ensure that all loose objects and Halloween decorations are tightly secured before the gusty winds arrive.
