Spring is a changeable time of the year and this season is proving no different. Most of Canada actually experienced a warm March—a memory almost completely erased by the doses of snow and cold that arrived to kick off April.
What does the rest of the season look like across the country? Here’s what forecasters expect to unfold across Canada heading through the second half of spring.

Rest of spring may disappoint warm-weather fans
Spring is certainly a season that requires patience, and this year is no exception. While seasonal temperatures gradually increase in the coming weeks, don’t expect a “flip of the switch” toward a warmer pattern through the remainder of the season.

Changeable conditions will persist over the next ten days as the temperature roller-coaster continues from coast to coast. Below-seasonal conditions will stick around for the Great Lakes and portions of the West Coast, while warmer conditions remain confined to the Prairies and Far North.
A glimmer of hope on the horizon as we end April
If you’re in the eastern half of Canada and you’re searching for an atmospheric treat to look forward to, you might have a bright spot to round out the month of April.
An upper-level ridge expected to anchor itself over the Great Lakes will bring a temporary reprieve of warmer temperatures to the East through late April.
If it comes to pass, this brief pattern shift should bring above-seasonal conditions to much of the eastern half of Canada.
This warmer pattern won’t last long, however, and we’ll likely see a return to a more familiar pattern by the start of May.
An expanded region of warmer conditions is likely through the center of the country by early May, with cooler conditions dominating on either coast.
If you’re looking for a silver lining, it’s worth mentioning that as climatological averages climb through the season, the concept of “below-seasonal” in early May looks far different than it would in early March.
Even better news may arrive by the end of May, as the warmth will try to expand throughout much of the country.
