End in sight to remarkable dry streak in southern Ontario

It's been as much as 13-16 days without rain for parts of southern Ontario, but the streak will come to an end on Sunday or Monday as multiple rounds of precipitation and storms move through.

A remarkable September dry spell is developing in Toronto, Ont., with 16 consecutive days without measurable precipitation––the longest September dry streak in eight years and longest in more than half a decade.

We’re in the middle of the longest dry streak since May 6-25, 2021 (20 days), but that will be coming to an end soon.

Southern Ontario dry streaks:

  • Hamilton: 16 days

  • Kingston: 14 days

  • Peterborough: 13 days

  • Ottawa: 13 days

Soils that have dried out from the prolonged stretch are hardened, meaning any sudden downpour could run off quickly and increase the risk of localized flooding in the thunderstorms that could develop over the next couple of days.
