Is that it for the summer heat? Sweater weather ends August across Ontario
August comes to a cooler close for many in Ontario, marking a notable contrast to the intense heat experienced earlier this summer.
Subtle signs of autumn are appearing across Ontario as sunset times shorten and cooler temperatures settle in. Forecasts indicate a significant departure from the summer heat, with daytime highs through late August trending 5–10°C below seasonal norms for much of the province.

In southern Ontario, temperatures will hover near 20°C—typical for late September rather than the end of August.
Northern Ontario will see a cooldown starting Sunday and Monday, with daytime highs barely climbing out of the mid to upper teens. This surge of cooler air is expected to bring some of the chilliest temperatures since early June for communities north and east of Lake Superior.

Temperatures in southern Ontario, typically in the mid-20s during late August, are forecast to drop 5°C or more below seasonal averages early next week.
Many areas near cottage country and along the Huron shores may not even reach 20°C on Tuesday, with parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) also expected to see daytime highs remain in the upper teens.

So, what's to blame for the cooldown?
An unseasonably cool upper-level trough is driving the early arrival of fall-like weather in Ontario.
Cool northwest winds passing over the warmer waters of the Great Lakes are also expected to generate scattered lake-effect showers and, under the right conditions, could even lead to waterspout activity.

Temperatures will end August on a comfortable note, but they will feel seasonably cool compared to typical late-August norms and the warmer conditions experienced for much of this summer.

Is that it for the 30°C days?
For those who enjoy the heat, there may be concerns that summer’s warmth is completely over.
While it’s uncertain whether specific locations will see another 30°C day, long-range forecast models indicate a rebound to seasonal or even above-seasonal temperatures as September begins!
