Hello, warmth! Vancouver eyes its first 20-degree temperature of the year

Southern B.C. will see another stretch of pleasant spring weather for most of the week, with Vancouver looking at its first 20°C reading of the year so far

After a cool start to the week in southern B.C., things are looking up for the second half of it.

Temperatures will trend warmer by late week with high temperatures reaching the lower 20s on Thursday across much of the Lower Mainland, away from the coast, but Vancouver is looking at a chance of reaching the 20-degree barrier for the first time this year.

Vancouver, B.C.'s last 20-degree day and April 24 forecast

Vancouver has been quite dry the past couple of weeks, with some mild temperatures here and there, but the city has yet to reach the 20°C mark. That could change come Thursday.

Dry and warm from Wednesday to Friday

Dry conditions are expected on Wednesday with a temperature elevation of 1°C or 2°C daily. The daytime highs will be pleasant, hitting the mid-teens.

The forecast is currently 19°C, but could ample sunshine help Vancouver reach the coveted 20°C reading?

Vancouver, B.C., seven-day forecast

The last time Vancouver residents basked in 20°C temperatures was on Oct. 13, 2024, when the temperature reached 20.2°C.

Friday will also be mild, so it is possible to be almost as warm as Thursday, but that depends on the timing of showers and cloud cover moving into the city.

The Interior is forecast to possibly reach 20°C this week, as well. However, if it does, it wouldn't be the first time hitting the 20-degree mark this year. It reached that threshold earlier this year.

B.C. South Coast+Interior Thursday forecast conditions

The potential for scattered showers will return during the weekend but it will still remain mostly dry. Temperatures will trend cooler for the South Coast, but the southern Interior will continue to see mild temperatures near 20°C.

A more unsettled pattern is expected for the coast region next week, bringing the potential for a few systems tracking in.

Temperatures during early May are expected to trend to near seasonal, or will be just below seasonal.
