Calgary's record-warm streak has no chill (again)
Calgary has yet to receive the frosty memo that fall is here.
Once again, Calgary is on the cusp of going back-to-back with historic warm streaks, having gone over five months since the temperatures last dipped below 0°C. This historic feat has only occurred a few times in the past.
The last time Calgarians felt temperatures go below freezing was on April 28, when temperatures reached a frosty -0.3°C. Since then, 154 days have gone by with overnight lows staying above freezing.
The previous record, which was set in 2024, was 159 days without freezing temperatures. If Calgary can cling onto the last bit of warmth through the weekend, we'll see that record broken!

Overnight temperatures are forecast to stay above freezing through the weekend, but temperatures are forecast to drop to 2°C by the pre-dawn hours on Sunday. Even if we see the thermometer dip to freezing on Sunday morning, though, the record will still be broken at 160 days.

Could we see the latest first frost in Calgary's history?
Calgary typically sees its first frost around Sept. 18, but there has yet to be any frost as of Sept. 30.

After two straight years of record warm streaks, it's entirely possible we could see this year be the third year in a row of record warmth. At this rate, we may even see this year make it into the record books for the latest first frost.
2024 snatched third place when Calgary didn't see any frost on the ground until Oct. 11, when temperatures reached -1.2°C. Oct. 12, 2020, holds second place.
The latest first frost in Calgary's history, however, was set in 1962. Back then, the city saw no frost until Oct. 19!
