Temperatures will take a bit of a dive this week with a noticeable cooldown, giving residents a reminder that fall is well underway, despite the recent record warmth.

By late week, temperatures will plummet by more than 10°C as a cold front swings through, bringing rain and gusty winds with it, as well. That won't be the end of the chill and wet weather, either.

Cool, wet weather to hit Atlantic Canada this week

A cooldown from Wednesday to Thursday will bring temperatures down by more than 10°C, thanks to the cold front that will swing through.

After that occurs, an upper level trough will keep seasonably cool temperatures around and into the Thanksgiving weekend.

In fact, the end of May was the last time Halifax, N.S., reported a daytime high of 11°C, which is the forecast for this weekend.

As well, there will be rainfall to contend with--weather that is sorely needed.

While the region continues to battle with drought conditions, with minimal to no rain through October so far and only a couple rounds in September, the cold front will bring widespread showers, with embedded heavier rain totals, through Wednesday.

Embedded thunderstorms in Nova Scotia Wednesday

Embedded thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon, bringing 15-30+ mm of rainfall. The highest amounts are expected along Nova Scotia's north shore.
