
20-degree drop in 12 hours: Get ready for a potent cold front in Alberta
Alberta is in for a temperature rollercoaster to end the week. It starts with a chance to see Canada's first 30-degree temperature of the year, and then plummets in less than 24 hours
May has been greeted by a taste of summer warmth across the Prairies, as temperatures soar to well above seasonal values.
Daytime highs will reach the mid-20s in Alberta on Friday, with the warm temperatures also spreading eastward across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Could we see Canada's first 30°C of the year this weekend? It's certainly possible as we closely watch sections of southern Alberta, and along the Saskatchewan border. On Saturday, Medicine Hat is forecast to reach a high of 29°C.

The summer-like heat will shift east for Sunday, with temperatures reaching the upper 20s and possibly 30°C across parts of southern and eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. That's as much cooler and more seasonal weather spreads across Alberta behind a strong and potent cold front.

From Saturday into Sunday, temperatures are expected to plummet 10-25°C within just 24 hours.

The cold front pushes into the province late Saturday afternoon, bringing temperatures down quickly into the overnight hours.
Calgary is expecting to see a 20-degree drop in a mere 12 hours.

Rain, and even snow flurries will follow along the cold front into Sunday, slumping down the QE2 and the foothills.
