20 cm: High winds, fresh snowfall in Newfoundland; power outage risk
Blowing snow, winter storm advisories in effect across island
High winds and fresh snowfall are expected to make for treacherous conditions across much of Newfoundland on Monday evening.
Special weather statements are in effect for all of the island, aside from the Northern Peninsula.
There's a winter storm warning in effect for Clarenville, Terra Nova, the Bonavista Peninsula and the Connaigre Peninsula with as much as 20 centimetres of snow expected.
The Avalon Peninsula is under a wind warning and a blowing snow advisory, with westerly to northwesterly gusts expected to top 110 km/hr starting late Monday evening and lasting overnight.
Environment and Climate Change Canada advises power outages are possible, and is warning people to secure loose items around their properties.
"Travel will likely be hazardous due to near-zero visibility," the blowing snow advisory reads.
The western part of the island is under a snow squall watch, with about 10 centimetres of snow forecasted and winds gusting to 70 km/hr.
