Some areas could see an entire month’s worth of rain in just a couple of days
Portions of British Columbia are on the lookout for drenching rain this weekend as an atmospheric river slides into the coast.
Some communities are on track for more than 100 mm of rainfall from this event, a formidable total which could exceed the average rainfall for the entire month of September in spots.

An atmospheric river drifting down the coast will stall as it reaches the Central Coast and northern Vancouver Island.
We’ll see a focused rainfall event develop as this excess moisture sweeps across the region. Forecasters expect the atmospheric river rating to reach AR3 across the Central Coast and northwestern Vancouver Island. This includes the community of Bella Bella.
Rainfall totals on the order of 75-100+ mm are on the way for much of the Central Coast and northern Vancouver Island. Some areas may see as much as 150 mm of rainfall through the weekend. Bella Coola could see its entire monthly average rainfall from this event alone.

A relatively sharp cutoff on the southern side of the atmospheric river will lead to much lower rainfall totals for the Lower Mainland and majority of Vancouver Island.
Victoria may only see 5-10 mm of rain from this event while Tofino is in line to pick up 30-50 mm in the gauges. Folks across the Lower Mainland, including Vancouver, are in line for 5-10 mm of precipitation, with slightly higher totals north and east of the city.
