What if all the oceans evaporated from Earth's surface?
How long could humanity, and even life itself, hold out on this planet without its oceans?
Earth's oceans are a vital part of our planet's ecosystem, so what would happen if they suddenly vanished?
Life on Earth began in the oceans, and those vast bodies of water have continued to sustain the planet, by redistributing the energy received from the Sun, and regulating and stabilizing the climate. It also acts as a source for most of the water vapour in the atmosphere, which is the reason why we have clouds, precipitation, and other forms of weather around the globe.
What if that crucial component of Earth's biosphere were to suddenly evaporate, though? What would that look like, what would that do to the planet's environment, and how long could life survive on such a world?
