Woman unearths 2.3-carat diamond in state park
Fox spent three weeks searching for the diamond.
Weeks of searching yielded 31-year-old Micherre Fox of New York a 2.3-carat diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas on July 29.
Staff confirmed the discovery and said it’s the third-largest diamond found in the park so far this year.
Fox reportedly spent three weeks searching for the diamond, which is about the size of a human canine tooth. She’s named it the Fox Ballou diamond, after her and her partner’s last names, and she plans to have it set in her engagement ring.
Fox says she found the diamond on her last day at the park. At first, she thought it was a spider web glistening with dew, Popular Mechanics reports.
Crater of Diamonds rests on 37 acres of land in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Visitors are welcome to search for diamonds, rocks, and other minerals on the land, which is the eroded surface of a volcanic crater.
More than 35,000 diamonds have been found at the site since it became a state park in 1972.
