Mushrooms or mould in your lawn? What it means and what to do
The Weather Network spoke with a lawn care expert who explains the signs of a waterlogged yard, and provides actionable tips on how to revive it.
At this point in the season, your lawn may be overwatered and showing signs of supreme hydration from too much rainfall.
Unfortunately, an oversaturated lawn may cause problems like an abundance of mushrooms, mould and weak root systems.
"When it comes to mushrooms, they are not a bad thing. But they are showing you there is too much moisture and the roots from the grass are starting to rot," said James Szojka, owner of Yard Dawgs Lawn Care.
When your grass is overwatered, the nutrients in the soil also become too diluted to keep a healthy lawn.

In terms of the mushroom issue...
"No need to buy fungicide to spray on top of them. But, do not mow over them. They will spread spores like crazy, [which] will lead to more mushrooms. Throw on a garden glove, pluck them out and put them in the compost bin," said Szojka.
