“If you take care of your car, it’ll take care of you.” Why you shouldn't underestimate the importance of spring vehicle maintenance.

The Weather Network's "All Weather Vehicle" has been vital in keeping our crews safe throughout the winter season. From snow squalls to freezing rain, we've tackled it all.

Now, it's time for" Mitsi" (that’s my pet name for our trusty car) to get some spring pampering.

Spring maintenance is not just about aesthetics. It's crucial for the safety and longevity of your vehicle. Like my dad always says, “If you take care of your car, it’ll take care of you.” Sound advice from a man who can keep cars running for decades!

Deep Cleaning: Interior and Exterior Cleaning

Start with a thorough, deep clean both inside and out. You can choose to tackle this yourself or have your car professionally detailed.

Underbody Wash

Ensure a thorough clean underneath the car to remove road salt, sand, and brine accumulated during winter. These materials are crucial in keeping Canadians safe on the roads but are corrosive to many vehicle surfaces.

Interior Detailing

Vacuum and shampoo salt from floor mats. You can use a mixture of warm water, vinegar, and a drop of mild soap to help loosen caked-on salt.

Dust out the vents. This is always a good idea to do regularly to ensure dust-free air every time you turn on your air conditioner or heater.

Waxing

Apply a good coat of wax. With summer storms and long, hot days of sunlight ahead, wax will protect your car’s paint from heavy rains, ultraviolet rays, and even bird droppings.

Essential Checks

Windshield Wipers

Test windshield wipers and replace if needed before summer storms arrive. You don’t want to be caught in a downpour with poor wipers!

Tire Change

When the time is right for your area, change over from winter tires. Winter tires wear out faster on hot pavement due to their softer rubber compound.
