Vinegar trick helps clear kitchen stench during holiday cleanups

A simple vinegar mixture can deodorize a stinky sink, but it will not remove a full clog.

Holiday cleaning can feel like an exhaustive task and nothing kills the mood faster than learning your kitchen has grown a strange odour.

If an unpleasant smell appears to originate out of the sink, there's a good chance you're dealing with more than just leftover dishes.

The solution is surprisingly simple. All you need is one common ingredient that you probably already have in your cupboard: vinegar.

A quick mixture of half a cup vinegar and half a cup water will help to freshen things up. Pour it down the drain and resist the urge to turn on the tap. Allow it to sit.

The vinegar neutralizes odours and leaves the area smelling cleaner. It won't remove a complete clog, but it will help clear out sludge and bacteria that build up in the P-trap beneath your sink.

To avoid future blockages, dispose of food scraps in the compost rather than down the drain.
